TALES OF GRAND RAPIDS is, currently, the next short story collection coming from the mind and keyboard of Peter Welmerink.
What is TALES OF GRAND RAPIDS about? No, it is not just a series of stories taking place in what we know as modern day Grand Rapids, Michigan and West Michigan. There is a multiverse of alternate cities of Grand Rapids, in different times, in different realities...and they all have a tale to share.
What could be so exciting or interesting about this little metropolis on the west side of the state?

The Portal to Multiple Realities starts in Grand Rapids
BATTLE ON THE GRAND is a military action-adventure tale set in the near-future where Special Forces commando, Captain Paul Jacks, finds his next mission in his old hometown fighting against the mayor-turned-terrorist with the odds against the soldier and what remains of his small squad of friends and fellow teammates. If Jacks doesn’t do his job, complete his mission, the town and his memories will vanish under nuclear hellfire...with him right in the middle.
(A Warbird Rises, as seen in the previously published BEST OF..., is the short pre-cursor to this approx. 14,000-word page turner. Also, the rough draft was read by a real ex-Army helicopter pilot and he gave it the thumbs up in action and detail.)
THE RAS is about a city encapsulated after the world outside of it is torn-apart by war and disease. The few "people" within are the custodians of the place, keeping it active and alive while the city waits for humanity to return to her streets and high rises. However, the City seems to have a mind of its own, controlled by the super-computer named RAS (Razz) and it has its electronic eye on one of the young custodians, Balanus Cambarus. The computer seems intent on destroying Balanus's older mentor. Why? And what does it really intend for the young Cambarus.
HERE LIES ROSALYN is a short Horror story taking place along a lonely and dark stretch of the US131 Expressway just north of downtown Grand Rapids. As a pretty, young woman sits on the side of the road with a flat tire, the men who appear to come to her aid end up having other plans for her. The ghost of a young girl comes to assist the wrong-doers, informing them they do evil deeds upon hallowed ground, and if they do not cease and desist, far worse things will be in their immediate future. What kind of hell can the spirit of a innocent young girl unleash? Plenty. Just watch the side of the road.
DOWN ON THE FARM is a Science-Fiction story set north of the city in a little burg called Sand Lake. Tempting fate and the wrath of the sentient robots who roam the area looking for witless fleshlings to obliterate, the armored adventurer Pete Wells returns to a favorite childhood haunt. Little does he know, there are other eyes on him and the farm he visits, and death comes rumbling down the road to eradicate all.
